A new page update Google support indicates that YouTube will stop using the exact location of users to offer them musical recommendations on its platform Youtube music Starting next September 26.
Currently, YouTube Music had the ability to generate recommendations based on the exact location of the people thanks to the access permission to the Location by GPS. But it does not only refer to a city but to exact places such as gyms, cafeterias, work or home.
“Now you can find music to train, focus, and do other activities in the activity bar at the top of Home. We think it’s a better way to help you put music in your day, “says the statement on the support page of Google.
In addition, past recommendations will be removed, that is, “the related information with the precise location of the user.
However, recommendations related to general location, such as country of origin, will still be active.
How to stop recommendations by location
Although the use of the exact location of the user to recommend content on Youtube music will cease to be used in the last days of Septemberusers can choose to configure the application manually so that the location not be a means of platform to suggest music.
This is possible from Account menuwhich is found by clicking on the photo or the initial letter of the user’s name, located in the upper right corner of the screen (smartphone or tablet).
Then click on the Settings option and click on privacy and locationyou can find the button Pause recommendations based on location. This will be disabled by default, but the user can choose to activate the pause.
It is important to bear in mind that said configuration will only affect the device from which the management was made and not the account in general, which may be active on several devices.
Improve recommendations in YouTube Music
Another way that YouTube Music can recommend content to users is through their musical tastes, something that can be registered through the “I like it” that users can use during the playing the songs to indicate your preference, or not, for a certain type of music.
This is not the only way to indicate what the user’s preference is. Upon downloading the app, it will request a selection of five artists to start the platform navigation. However, this selection can be expanded and improved later from the account settings.
The user must again go to the Account menu and then to Settings. At the end is the option Improve recommendations, which will take you back to the list of artists displayed when you create your account on the platform. This selection of artists has no limit of selectable options.
