The Xiaomi 12 Ultra will be the next ultimate flagship from the Chinese manufacturer. Renderings now show the alleged design with a circular camera module and without a second display. Obviously a complete redesign awaits us, which may not please everyone.
- The Xiaomi 12 Ultra should appear in China in the next few days
- The smartphone will supposedly be equipped with a quad-camera
- The camera is said to have been developed in collaboration with Leica
Xiaomi has managed to rise from a small outsider to second place among smartphone brands very quickly. The manufacturer was able to prove to the world that it is able to be innovative. At the same time, Xiaomi keeps bringing smartphones onto the market that are state-of-the-art. This is especially true for the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra, the current Xiaomi flagship.
The smartphone, presented in May of this year, is characterized by its huge camera module and, above all, its second display on the back. While everything indicated that its successor would optically follow in these footsteps, the Xiaomi 12 Ultra will bring a completely new design.
After the graphic designer Technizo Concept had created a series of renders of the Xiaomi 12 Ultra last month, the Finnish leaker “@ rodent950”, known under the pseudonym “Teme”, found a photo of an alleged case of the Xiaomi 12 Ultra on Weibo. The photo shows a new, previously unknown design.
LetsGoDigital took inspiration from the image of this case to design 3D renderings of the Xiaomi 12 Ultra. These renderings show that the smartphone should have a quad camera and, above all, that the second display on the back is no longer available. It can be seen that the smartphone would have a huge circular camera module housed in a rectangular base.
Normally, round camera modules are not very popular with users. With this huge disk on the back, the company risks the Xiaomi 12 Ultra that the design shot could backfire. After all, the new camera module should fix a bug in the photo module of the Mi 11 Ultra a priori. The smartphone tended to lean towards the ground due to the poor weight distribution and thus cause an imbalance.
In addition, the Xiaomi 12 Ultra with a four-fold camera module would have one more camera than its predecessor. Rumors have been talking for some time about the integration of a 50 MP wide-angle camera that could use a “Samsung ISOCell GN5” sensor to improve the Dual Pixel Pro autofocus. This is the successor to the ISOCell GN2, which is used in the Mi 11 Ultra. As for the other three cameras, there would likely be a 48 MP ultra wide angle lens and at least one telephoto lens.
As for the fourth camera, everything indicates that it could be a second telephoto lens or a monochrome sensor. This means that the Xiaomi 12 Ultra would draw level with other flagships such as the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra or the Huawei P50 Pro.
The rest of the camera module should consist of a color temperature sensor, a ToF sensor and a triple LED flash. A microphone and the Leica logo can also be seen. As a reminder: the same leaker had announced the end of the partnership between the German photography giant and Huawei. Since then, Leica has allied itself with Sharp, but above all with Xiaomi. The Xiaomi 12 series will therefore offer the brand’s first smartphones to benefit from this partnership.
The Xiaomi 12 Ultra will have pretty much everything on board that you could wish for in a flagship in the coming year 2022. This includes a QHD + AMOLED display with a refresh rate of 120 Hz, a “Snapdragon 8 Gen 1” SoC, up to 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal storage. We also expect a 5000 mAh battery and a charger with at least 120 watts. The price should roughly correspond to that of the Mi 11 Ultra, which cost 1,199 euros in the 12 + 256 GB version when it was launched.
