Several Xbox users have recently had the right to closure of their developer access generating fears of a tightening of the regulations. Microsoft explains and apologizes for this quack.
One of the strengths of independent development on Xbox is that it allows any console to unlock Xbox Dev Mode very quickly and easily to start testing its future game. This mode also allows you to install applications without going through the store. from Microsoft, and therefore to install many emulators, making the Xbox Series the ideal consoles for playing old games in emulation.
In recent days, many users of this method have noticed that Microsoft has disabled their access to Xbox Dev Mode because they do not offer applications on the online store. More fear than harm, this was a mistake and Microsoft came back on it.

Accounts will be reactivated
It was Jason Ronald, one of the technical managers for the Xbox team, who addressed the issue publicly on Twitter. He first explains clearly that Microsoft does not intend to disable access to developer mode on Xbox consoles.
We have no plans to remove or disable Developer Mode on Xbox consoles. We continue to believe in and support a healthy independent app and game development community on Xbox.

In the rest of the thread, he explains that it was simply scheduled maintenance to check accounts deemed inactive on Microsoft’s development interface. It should be kept in mind that the latter is managed by the Microsoft Store team which is common to several branches of the company: Xbox, but also Windows. This team noted that many accounts had never published any apps and decided that these accounts could be disabled.
Jason Ronald promises that the affected accounts will be reactivated and that users will be able to regain access to developer mode on their Xbox consoles. If an account is not correctly reactivated, it invites you to contact the service in charge by email at [email protected]

Without explicitly encouraging the use of emulators, Microsoft therefore does not seem to have changed its policy regarding very open access to developer mode on its consoles.
