Windows 11 new features coming with the February patch

The February update of Windows 11 is now very close to release: Microsoft made the build (number 22000.526) available last night in the Release Preview circuit, the closest to the stable one. One of the most interesting news is the return of the clock on all taskbars in multi-monitor configurations, as is the default on Windows 10: since the launch of Windows 11, for some reason Microsoft had decided to make it appear only on the main monitor taskbar.

Microsoft had already said a few days ago that this month’s update would be pretty big, more than usual, especially from the point of view of the interface and user-side changes. For example, again with regard to the taskbars of secondary monitors, also in these a toggle will be displayed to mute the volume. Unfortunately, there is still no information on drag & drop support, another important lack compared to Windows 10. For the rest, according to the official indications of the company, Windows 11 new features will have:

  • Return of the weather widget to the taskbar.
  • New version of Windows Media Player (in Beta for some time already) , with support for the dark theme and graphics in line with that of the main operating system.
  • The same for the Notepad (also in Beta for a while) .
  • Easier window sharing in Microsoft Teams directly from the taskbar with a dedicated button.

But the highlight will be the arrival, finally, of support for Android apps . It will still be formally in Beta, but at least available in the stable channel after months of testing only for Insiders . We remind you that this feature was developed in collaboration with Amazon, so the catalog of its Appstore will be present; however, there are some tricks to install even the well-stocked Play Store, although Microsoft does not support it in an official form.

More generally, Microsoft has big plans for Windows 11 in 2022. The company wants to harness the Insiders’ Dev Channel more intensively to propose new experimental features and decide based on feedback whether to continue them or not. For the moment, no previews, however.
