“This time the adventure will be into the unknown.” With this phrase the twitter account of Disney Plus advanced the trailer for the new series called Willow which will hit the platform on November 30.
Back in 1988, Ron Howard (Oscar winner for A brilliant mind), was encouraged to direct Willow, a film that would become a classic of the cinema of the 80s that was added to films such as The Goonies Count Me In Indiana Jones Y Return to the future.
Now, Disney Plus decided to rescue this story and chose to approach us Willow, but in this case as a series. The story will take place some time after what happened in the original film, therefore it would work as a sequel. Warwick Davis is back in this new bet and returns in the skin of the protagonist.
Very little is known about what the story will be about, but based on the trailer, we know that a young princess will join a group of adventurers in order to rescue her twin brother. They will come across fantastic beings that will help them, and others, of course, will stand in their way. Luckily they will run into Willow to achieve her goal.
This series has within its cast: Erin Kellyman (cloud riders), cailee spany (Young Witches: New Sisterhood), ellie bamber (The Serpent), Tony Revoli (The Grand Budapest Hotel) Y Amer Chadha Patel (dash cam).
The pilot episode is directed by Jon M Chu (GI Joe: Revenge, In a New York neighborhood Y crazy millionaires), who in turn is an executive producer of the series. Jonathan Casdan Y Wendy Mericle (Arrow) are the showrunners of Willow. In the case of Kasdan, It should be noted that he has already worked with Ron Howard (director of the original film) in the film Han Solo: A Star Wars Story.
The 1980s movie (based on an idea by the great george lucas) had in its cast the actor of the moment, Val Kilmer (Top Gun: Maverick), and told the story of an aspiring great sorcerer who plunged into an adventure when he decided to protect a girl, Elora Danan, whose mission was to defeat the most evil queen as expressed in a prophecy.
Willow it became a worldwide success and also generated a lot of profits, since it managed to raise 137 million dollars (the original investment was just 35 million). Such was the success, that the following year he managed to get into the race for the Oscars in the categories of Best Sound Editing and Best Visual Effects.
