At last scenes of White Noise are permeated by moments of tension. Shortly after a truck carrying toxic products collides with the train, a black cloud takes over the city sky, causing a lethal toxic rain for humans. In view of this, the municipal authorities issue an alert, asking all residents to look for safe places to stay.

At that moment, the Gladney family gets into the car towards a publicized shelter, but when they arrive at the scene, Jack is informed that because he was too exposed to acid rain — he had stopped to fill up the car — his chances of survival were low and that he would probably die.

At that moment, upon learning of the situation, Professor Siskind hands Jack a gun and tells him that when death appears in front of him, the character must “kill” it first.

Over time, the cloud disappears from Iron City and all residents can safely return home. However, their lives will never be the same, as authorities have reported that anyone who has been exposed to the rain for more than 10 seconds is doomed to death. This great tension leaves the characters worried and anguished, living only in waiting for the end.

Afterwards, the possibility of a drug called Dylar appears on the market, promising to eliminate the fear of death to bring a little more relief to those who were suffering. However, moments later the drug is prohibited by inspectors.

Babette, Jack’s wife, then decides to arrange the pills in an alternative way and finds this possibility with a man named Mr. Gray. However, in order to get the medicine, Gray demands that Babette spend a night with him at the motel.

Seeing that this would be the only possibility of getting the pills, Babette starts having daily meetings with the character, hiding the whole story from her husband.

At a certain point, Jack decides to track his wife to understand where she is getting the drug. When he arrives at the location, the character finds Mr. Gray and automatically discovers his wife’s betrayals. Driven by rage, Jack decides to kill Mr. Gray with the gun he received from Professor Siskind.

At the same time, Babette who was not in the room appears on the scene and then decides to shoot Jack and herself to end the couple’s suffering once and for all.

The characters are rescued and immediately taken to the hospital, where they undergo a series of procedures. After recovering, Jack reflects on the events and realizes that he has overcome his great fear of death.

At this point, the film makes an analogy to Mr. Gray and Jack’s fear of death. Killing the character was a release from the anguish and anxiety that Jack felt so much.

The film then ends with a restructuring of the family, after they realize everything they have built together and the affection they have for each other. In the final scene, they happily enter the supermarket to shop, just like a traditional family.
