Going back to see classics can be an enjoyable experience. And they understood that very well from Netflix that from time to time adds some old film to its catalogue.
“(Everything I do) I do it for you” – “(Everything I Do) I Do It for You”, that was the name of the song that transcended the film and was sung by the Canadian Brian Adams. It took first place in 30 countries, staying on the podium for 16 weeks in the UK and 7 in the US. This song was nominated for an Oscar in 1992, although it failed to win the award.
This was the central theme of Robin Hood, the prince of thievesthe film starring Kevin Costner (Yellowstone), Morgan Freeman (Undefeated), Alan Rickman (Really love), Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio (blind spot) Y Christian Slater(Dr Death). The film premiered in 1991 and was a worldwide success. And now Netflix decided to add this film to its catalog and it was immediately placed among the titles most chosen by consumers.
Robin Hood It was directed by Kevin Reynolds (Hatfields & McCoys, Risen) and told the classic story of Robin of Locksley, played by Kevin Costnerwho had been imprisoned in a Jerusalem prison during the Third Crusade led by King Richard, the Lionheart (Sean Connery). When he manages to escape he crosses paths with Azeem (played by Morgan Freeman), whose life Robin saves. Thus, this man makes an oath to Robin that he will not abandon him until he returns the favor.
Upon reaching English lands they will come across the tyranny within Nottingham, managed by Sheriff George (Rickman). But the most shocking thing Robin will experience in his land will be discovering that his father, the noble Lord Locksley (Brian Blessed), was murdered.
Thus begins this path of revenge for Robin with Azeem, who decide to steal from the nobility and the church to give food to the poorest. Sherwood Forest will be his lair as the sheriff is looking for him to kill him. He will also meet Lady Marian (Mastrantonio), fiancee of the sheriff and with whom he will fall in love.
The adventures of this hero of the most needy was received at the time with open arms. Let’s remember that Costner was at the height of his popularity (he had starred in and directed Dance with wolves the previous year, for which he won several Oscars, including best film and best director), and this film ended up nominating him as a Hollywood star.
Despite this boost in his career, Kevin was criticized at the time of the film’s release because he had not achieved the English accent for his character. The production grossed $170 million in the United States and more than $230 million in the rest of the world.. That same year it was released Terminator 2: Judgment Day, which managed to become the highest grossing film above Robin Hood.
They are now available at Netflix and it is worth seeing it again or discovering it for the first time.
