We already know which is Batman’s favorite gay movie

Although I have it very well hidden, Batman he’s a piece of bread, something of which the comics (and sometimes the movies too) have given us abundant proof. What we just learned, to our surprise, is that the flagship badass of DC he also watches romantic dramas from time to time. Especially if it helps you better understand a disciple who has just come out of the closet.

The revelation has taken place in the DC Pride 2023, the new special with which the house of ‘Bats’, Superman and Wonder Woman celebrate the LGBTI pride. For several years now, the publisher has been publishing these volumes annually in which it foregrounds its characters of non-heterosexuality, with stories and illustrations by prestigious firms (this year, one of them is the Spanish Maria Llovet).

Thus, this year’s special introduces us to harley quinn and poison ivy trying to pull off a romantic getaway, or Apollo and Midnighter keeping homophobes at bay during an LGBT demonstration. But the episode that interests us is titled hey stranger and has as protagonists Tim Drake (the third Robin, active since 1989) and Connor Hawke, son of Oliver Queen (Green Arrow).

written and drawn by Nadia Shammas and Bruka Jones, The story introduces us to Tim and Connor at the end of a normal night at work: the former has beaten up some arms dealers on board a yacht, and the latter has come to help him bring the boat to port. To top, damian wayne (Bruce’s somewhat psychotic son) is rushing them to finish fast.

The meeting ends up turning into a discussion about the pros and cons of coming out when one leads the traumatic life of a superhero. Connor is asexual, and the idea of telling his father has made him wonder, while Tim had to go through the process of talking about his bisexuality with the Bat-Family in full. Including his ex, Stephanie Brown (Spoilers).

As dysfunctional as they are, Batman’s disciples look out for their own, and Tim (who, by the way, was named after Batman) Tim Burton) He admits that everything was better than he expected. Even with the Lord of the Night himself: “Bruce didn’t say anything, but I looked and he saw ‘Weekend’ yesterday. He gave it five stars on [la red social para cinéfilos] Letterboxd”, points.

So, we already know that ‘Bats’ likes the film directed and written by andrew haigh in 2011. A film that was fed up with winning awards (including two from the Spanish festival Lesgaicinemad) for the naturalness and sharpness with which he portrayed a brief but intense romance between its protagonists, played by Tom Cullen and Chris New.

Bruce’s choice looks great to us, and if you want to move on you can take a look at Looking, the series that Haigh produced for HBO Max. Likewise, it is also good that they remember us the power of fiction (cinema, in this case) to foster empathy towards sexualities and affections that are common to the human condition without distinction of labels.

Let us also remember that the recently deceased Kevin Conroy, the historic voice of ‘Bats’ in animation, was openly gay. Conroy spoke of his experiences (and how they helped him identify with the role) in a comic published in the DC Pride 2022.

What gives us goosebumps, yes, is knowing that the Dark Knight of Gotham City rate your favorite films on the internet. What titles will appear on your favorites list? Will she cry with sad endings? Be ‘I am revenge I am night 39’ Your username? Now that is a mystery.
