The decision to end the narrative, which takes place 30 years after the events seen in the Karate Kid, generated a series of criticisms and complaints from fans towards Netflix. However, the creator of Cobra Kai, Jon Hurwitz, recently revealed that the option to end the series after its 6th season was not made by streaming, but by the showrunners of the series. The information was shared via Twitter.

Hurwitz’s tweet was a response to a viewer from Cobra Kai, who asked the producer what his reaction was when they (Netflix, in this case) decided not to renew the series. He then explained the situation: “Netflix didn’t tell us it was the last season. We told them it was the last season. We’ve always wanted to end Cobra Kai our way and we’re grateful to have the opportunity to do so. . But that doesn’t mean we’re done with the Miyagiverse. We love that world.”

Despite having a certain reputation for canceling series without solid reasons, Netflix, by all appearances, had nothing to do with the demise of Cobra Kai, as stated by the creator of the series himself. In that sense, the executive just wanted to finish the narrative the way he had imagined, closing the production cycle in a satisfactory way for him, for the team and for the fans of the show as well. However, as Hurwitz stated, Cobra Kai may win spin-offs that take the Miyagiverse forward.

The Netflix series features the original cast of the films from Karate Kid, which mixes with new faces. The work features Ralph Macchio, William Zabka, Courtney Henggeler, Martin Kove, Mary Mouser, Tanner Buchanan, Xolo Maridueña, Jacob Bertrand, among others.
