After months of backlash over the merger of HBO Max and Discovery+, Warner Bros. apparently changed his mind about the future of his variety streaming.

According to a new report released by the The Wall Street Journal, Warner Bros. will continue with the decision to launch a new streaming later this year – which will probably be called Max. The difference now is that Discovery+ will remain available in the United States, with the public being able to subscribe individually.

The change would have been motivated by the company’s fear of losing more than 20 million Discovery + subscribers. This is because many of them would not be willing to pay a higher amount on the new platform.

Currently, Discovery+ has a regular plan of US$ 7 and another with ads, which costs US$ 5. Subscription to HBO Max costs US$ 16 or US$ 10, in the respective plans.

The expectation is that the new streaming service from Warner Bros. Discovery brings together content from HBO Max and much of the Discovery+ catalogue. However, the variety-focused platform should still continue to exist as a separate service.

Since AT&T confirmed the merger of WarnerMedia and Discovery in May last year, discussions about a new streaming service have grown and some big changes in the company’s strategy have been announced.

The first of these was the cancellation of batgirl, a film that would have starred Leslie Grace and Brendan Fraser. The production cost US$ 90 million and had already been completed, but ended up being scrapped.

Shortly thereafter, other titles were canceled or removed from HBO Max, including Westworld, The Nevers, minx It is Love Life. According to Warner Bros., the removal and cancellation of productions were necessary to reduce costs.
