Warcraft Arclight Rumble is announced for Android and iOS

Developer Blizzard announced its latest foray into the world of iOS and Android gaming with its first explicitly Warcraft-branded mobile game, Warcraft Arclight Rumble.

Warcraft Arclight Rumble bills itself as a free-to-play action strategy game, and notably gives the franchise a new visual style with miniatures inspired by the past. Players can collect in-game miniatures from familiar characters from warcraft which can be used in single player or PVP battles.

While the game itself appears to be a thematic departure from what fans of warcraft can wait, bring established franchises to iOS and Android in a very friendly way for mobile devices can be a way for companies like Blizzard introduce those legacy brands to new audiences.

mobile launches of Blizzard tend to also include a PC element, which makes Arclight Rumble be something unique to the company. Devil Immortal, for example, was first announced as a made-for-mobile title, but was recently announced for PC as well. In the meantime, Heartstonethe card game flavored with warcraft from Blizzard, debuted on PC before coming to mobile months later.

It is expected that Warcraft Arclight Rumble launches later this year, though players can already pre-register for the free game at Android or opt for the opportunity to view a beta version through battle.net.
