Velma: Scooby-Doo spin-off series is detonated by critics and fans

the first reactions Velma, a series recently released on HBO Max, are not doing well. With an 8% viewership rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a forwarded “Rotten” badge on the site, the adult spin-off of Scooby Doo fails to please old fans of the cartoon and new audiences alike.

Involved in controversy since its official announcement, Velma has suffered criticism for its deviant approach to the original content. Apparently, the problem was never to bring the researcher as the protagonist, but to convert the personality of the main characters and bet on mature, violent and nudity content. These problems were found even without any relationship between the spin off and the original materials.

“This radical revamp of the beloved Mystery Team has a lot of attitude and style, but it doesn’t have a clue how to turn its clever subversion into engaging fun,” writes the critics consensus on the ratings aggregator site.

Reinforcing the negative rating, IMDB places the series with a 2.4/10 note (among more than 3,000 reviews), while Metacritic highlights a user note of only 0.8/10.
