The design program Photoshop has begun the progressive abandonment of access to some colors that are displayed on your platform because these belong to the color system of Pantonea color identification, comparison and communication company in various business areas.

This gradual elimination would not only affect the variety of colors that are displayed on the editing program of photographs, but it would reach other products included in the subscriptions to the CreativeCloud from Adobe, such as Illustrator, InDesign, Color, and Capture.

The reason for this decision would be that the Pantone company increased the prices of its license for the technology company, so it would no longer be viable to keep these colors within its software as free access, as it has been since the 90s.

These changes within color system in Photoshop, which began in August of this year and which, according to Adobeare presented in program updates illustrator, InDesign Y Photoshop to be released after August 16th of this year, they will only leave in the catalog of these design software to the following Pantone color books:

– Pantone + CMYK coated

– Pantone + CMYK uncoated

– Pantone + metallic coating

These three collections will be the only ones that can continue to be used by graphic designers and other professionals dedicated to digital photography free of charge unlike ten color options that were available in earlier versions of the programs.

If a person wishes to access catalogs that are currently removed from the selection of Photoshop, this can only be possible by means of a special license. “Clients who make use of pantone colors in their creative work processes will need a pantone license which is obtained through the plugin Pantone Connect available in Adobe Exchange”, indicates the official Adobe website.

What will happen to the files already created with Pantone colors

The design expert, Iain Anderson, indicated on his Twitter account that with the changes that are presented in Photoshopif currently a person opens a document .PSD (format in which the files created in the Program) even if it was generated several years before the modification, the colors Pantone used will be removed and replaced by the black color.

If a person using this program and the colors Pantone to work, they will have no choice but to migrate to another design program that offers these color options within their package or purchase the license of Pantone Connect through Adobe Exchange as indicated in the statement on the company’s website software.

The price of this subscription is $59.99 per year or $7.99 per month for each user who has access to these colors.

The complement of Pantone Connect gives users who purchase it a catalog with a variety of colors greater than 15,000plus the ability to use search, selection, and measurement tools, and the ability to save up to 10 color palettes on its official website.

According to the website of Pantonethere is also a plan Premiumwhich adds “a dozen more tools to create smarter, more impactful palettes,” though according to the website of Adobe, the experience using this plugin is not good. The reviews are mainly negative and it has 1.6 stars out of 5 on Adobe Exchange.
