Twitter will allow you to search for specific messages in the direct message inbox

Twitter added a new update that allows users to search for messages within the Direct Messages inbox (MD) using both names and keywords.

“Now you can use the search bar in your inbox to find specific messages using keywords or names,” the social network announced through a tweet posted on its official account. “We know that they have been waiting for this option for a long time,” the company stressed.

From now on, this new function will accompany the possibility of searching for users or groups within the MDs. At the end of 2019, the social network introduced the search bar on iOS devices, but it only allowed you to search for conversations. Two years later, this functionality was also implemented in Android.

Twitter will start with this latest update to show three options in the MD search bar: People, Groups and Messages. The update is already being implemented both in the web version and in the iOS and Android app.

To update the service you have to enter Google Play or Apple Store, search for the application and press the “update” button. It should be noted that since it is a recent update that was made globally, it may take a few days to reach all users.

How to mark Tweets as offensive and irrelevant

Another novelty that the platform has recently added is the possibility of marking tweets as offensive or irrelevant. It is an option known as “low votes”, which is available, in a limited way, for some users in Latin America, the United States and other regions of the world, both in iOS, Android and desktop version.

To make use of this alternative simply Click on the down arrow icon that appears when asking for tweets, right between the heart and share icons. Clicking on the arrow will turn it red.

The goal is to limit comments that are unhelpful or offensive for them to lose strength. “We are always looking for new ways to increase healthy engagement and interaction on Twitter. We are still in the learning phase of this experiment and we seek to better understand how Low Votes could help us, in the future, give greater visibility to the most relevant content for people on Twitter. At this stage, the Lowvotes are still private and have no impact on the order of the answers”, they explained to TechMarkup from the social network.

Test participants have agreed that this feature helps raise the quality of conversations on Twitter, which are known among users as the most “toxic” of all social networks. This is how this social network spread it when it made the announcement of this function, in February.

Fight fake news and prevent cases of grooming

The social network also announced other tools to improve online conversation. In addition to the option already mentioned, presented the program bird watch to stop the spread of disinformation through that social network. The system relies on community collaboration to provide contextual information on tweets considered potentially misleading.

In turn, he threw a complete guide to prevent grooming in Latin America. It is a joint effort between Twitter and Grooming Argentina, with scope in the region.

The guide contains the interpretation and identification of behavioral, emotional and educational indicators in potential victims.

Grooming refers to the sexual harassment of children and adolescents through digital means, generally by adults who seek to establish contact for sexual purposes.
