Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment are teaming up with studios to bring the sequel to the classic disaster movie, twister. Entitled of twistersthe new project already has a script and will be produced by Frank Marshall (The Bourne Identity, Indiana Jones), with filming slated to begin sometime in the northern hemisphere spring.
Still without much information announced, it is known that the script was written by Mark L. Smith, from the return, and was endorsed by the 1996 film’s director Steven Spielberg. According to sources from deadlinethe Hollywood celebrity is streamlining contacts with industry friends and sees potential in the likes of Jimmy Chin and Elizabeth Chai Vaserhelyi (Free Soil), Dan Trachtenberg (price) and Travis Knight (Kubo and the Magic Strings). Meanwhile, Joseph Kosinski of Top Gun Maverickdenied the proposal and works with Brad Pitt on another project.
Regarding returns, Jan De Bont, director of twistershould not return after failure of Lara Croft – Tomb Raider: The Origin of Life (2003), when he left film coordination for good. Bill Paxton, the protagonist of the original film, passed away in February 2017, aged 61. Despite this, rumors indicate that co-star Helen Hunt may reprise her role as Jo Harding, this time playing the main character’s mother.
