Argentine cinema has a handful of directors who are synonymous with success. One of them is Ariel Winograd. His filmography has always responded well at the box office and his films are popular without that meaning less cinematographic quality. There is an example that shows the weight of his work. Just before the pandemic will lead to the closure of theaters in Argentina, the latest blockbuster was The theft of the century (2020), directed by Ariel Winograd and starring Diego Peretti and William Francella. His business career stopped along with all other activities. Almost two years later, the first great success of Argentine cinema with open theaters was Today the world is fixed also directed by Ariel. Although the film was ready before, it was expected to find the best time for its mass release.

Today the world is fixed It’s now coming to Netflix and it’s a good opportunity to recommend a movie genuinely designed for movie theaters via streaming. The story has a classic center of humor and emotion typical of Winograd cinema. David “Greek” Samaras (Leonardo Sbaraglia) works as a general producer of a successful television show called precisely Today the world is fixed. In this program, two people with a conflict that seems irreconcilable sit down to debate until they find an agreement between the parties. Griego seems like an expert in feelings, but in reality he is quite the opposite. A lifelong workaholic, he is single and emotionally unconnected with the world. He has a nine-year-old son, Benito (Benjamin Otero), whom he does not know in depth. Benito was born from an occasional relationship with Silvina (Natalia Oreiro) and Greek is not a present parent. Even when she tells him that she is going to live in Spain with the child, he does not seem particularly worried.

An unexpected event leaves the boy in the care of Griego, who overnight must take care of the little boy he barely knows. In parallel, his program enters into crisis and his success for years is at risk of being cancelled. But that’s not all: Silvina has told Griego that Benito is not her son, so she takes it upon herself to search for the real father at the same time. That search, of course, contains all the humor and emotion of the plot. There will be no big surprises but there are some twists that keep the fun and interest always active. Winograd knows all the springs of classic cinema and uses them masterfully.
