Beta testing of Apple Pay Later is in full swing among Apple’s own employees, Tim Cook revealed in an interview with CNBC. Apple Pay Later was supposed to be released at the launch of iOS 16, but was delayed due to technical challenges in getting the service up and running.
Now Cook says that the service will be launched “soon”. It is not entirely impossible that it will be removed when IOS 16.4 is released later in the spring. A public beta before then could be on the cards.
Apple Pay Later can be seen as Apple’s answer to Klarna, a “buy-now-pay-later” service. When you buy something with Apple Pay, instead of paying directly, you can choose to make four interest-free installments spread over six weeks. The service will initially only be available in the US, but will spread internationally sooner or later.
