TikTok removed millions of underage accounts this year and took these steps

Of the one billion TikTok users, the majority are minors, who are exposed to various incidents that can endanger their safety.

The social network of short videos in vertical format, TikTok, is one of the largest in the world with more than one billion Active users and most of them are young minors, so the platform aims to create a safe environment for interactions of the users.

Laura Reyna, Public Affairs Manager for TikTokinsisted that users should report content that they consider inappropriate or that violates the rules of the platform.

In the first months of 2022, the elimination of 1,890,194 videos in Colombia, a figure that not only includes users who violated the rules but also the profiles of people under 13 years of age, who cannot have a profile on the social network.

What is the protection for minors?

The representative of the social networkLaura Reyna, indicated that parents of children under 13 years of age should not allow their sons and daughters to create their own account or profile on TikTok.

In addition, the platform provides other forms of moderation in the content and experiences available to protect users. minorssuch as family sync, comment filters, and duo restriction.

However, it is also understood that the needs of a 13-year-old cannot be generalized with another 17-year-old, which is why subdivisions of protection according to ages to which certain characteristics were assigned to protect their experience in TikTok and prevent cases of harassment or other incidents.

In the case of people between 13 and 15 years old

– They cannot receive direct messages.

– Your accounts are private by default.

– They can’t do it live.

– They can comment only their contacts.

– They are not allowed to download videos from other users.

– Other users are not allowed to do duets with the content produced by the account.

In the case of people between 16 and 17 years old

– They can modify the privacy settings of the account at any time.
