Launched in July 2023, Threads is the new competitor to Twitter. The social network belongs linked to Instagram belongs to Meta and has already arrived causing great expectations for users, because it has good infrastructure for growth and, theoretically, has the potential to replace the network bought by Elon Musk.
Basically, Thread is an app very similar to Twitter. It allows posts of up to 500 characters to be made, in addition to being able to add links, photos and videos of up to 5 minutes in the content of a post. But after all, what is the difference between Threads and Twitter? In the next lines, Tech Markup details all of them.
Feed
Initially, Threads only presents a single timeline with no chronology. Another point is that the user sees the posts that are currently successful and from verified users, all together with the publications of people who are already followed by the profile.
On the other hand, Twitter has two feeds. One of them is the one that follows the chronological order of posts, with the name ‘Following’, which basically shows the publications of those you follow. The other work through the algorithm, called “For You”, giving content suggestions according to your movements on the social network.
Platforms
Also initially, Threads can only be used via cell phone, with an application for Android and iPhone (iOS). Twitter can be accessed from any browser on a computer or smartphone.
Privacy
On Threads, your account is linked to Instagram, so all your privacy choices on one of the social networks will be replicated on the other, such as hiding likes and blocking followers, in addition to the option to leave your profile closed .
However, on Twitter there is the possibility to block or silence people independently, without being connected to other social networks. And you can also choose what you want to see in the ad, or even how your friends can find you on the net, using just your phone or email.
Data collect
When it comes to data collection, Threads, in addition to already cross-referencing information with other company apps, has 14 data parameters, which cover health, finances, acquisitions, research carried out, identifiers and confidential information.
On the other hand, Twitter is independent and collects less user data and has only 7 parameters, including location, IDs, usage data, browsing, purchases made and generated content.

Interface
In this comparative case, Threads has four buttons: home, search, like and create posts. Twitter, on the other hand, has those mentioned above and three more: with the microphone item, there are Spaces, which is a way to have live audio conversations. The other is the “People” button, which gives access to communities, places for users to connect, share and get closer to debates that they consider important. And finally, the DMs, which are direct messages for private conversations with whoever you want.
