How this website can be used

To use this tool you need to upload a photo, which will be stored within the servers for 48 hours, of the person you want to meet. A search only takes a few seconds and you get a grid of photos of faces considered similar.

Subscribing users can 25 daily searches, view the results in less than 5 seconds and verify them all. On the other hand, alerts can be set to notify you when a new photo is found.

New owner, new ideology

Giorgi Gobronidze is the new owner of PimEyes, a 34-year-old academic who says his interest in advanced technology began because of the cyber attacks Russians to his native Georgia. Gobronidze said that she thinks PimEyes can be a tool for something positive, to help people monitor their online reputation.

“Users of PimEyes are only supposed to search their faces or the faces of people who have given consent,” Gobronidze said. Nevertheless, noted that it depended on people acting “ethically,” which offers little protection against technological erosion of the ability to remain anonymous in the crowd.

PimEyes has no controls to prevent users from searching for a face other than their own and prompts the user to pay a hefty sum to prevent the damaging photos generated by one night’s bad decisions from haunting them forever.
