“This is a love letter to parents and children”: Ryan Reynolds spoke with Infobae about “The Adam Project”, his new movie

The actor spoke with Infobae about this new Netflix production in which he plays a time traveler with a broken life and wounds from the past that he needs to heal.

Today it opens in Netflix, the adam projecta film starring Ryan Reynolds in which time travel, science fiction and the future are always giving something to talk about. However, along with that, viewers will find a strong family story that will make them reflect on their relationship with parents, childhood, memories, and how to deal with grief and heal wounds.

The fiction begins with a child Adam (Walker Scobell), who is going through one of his worst moments, despite his young age: his father died some time ago in a traffic accident (Mark Ruffalo), she is a victim of bullying at school, her relationship with her mother (Jennifer Garner) is not the best and feels lonely and out of place. However, his life takes a radical turn when one night, at his house, a man appears who claims to come from the future and who, moreover, is himself, but much older.

This adult Adam, played by Reynolds, does not have the main objective of running into his little version, and in reality, what he is looking for is to reunite with his wife (Zoe Saldana) and save her from a tragic end. And although at first she can’t stand being with this younger Adam, the truth is that finally this little boy will become a great ally to fulfill his mission.

“I think that’s the kind of gap that the film tries to rescue: They are the same person, but they are very different at this point. We meet a young Adam, who is like any other child, self-absorbed, who enjoys video games and in a certain way that serves as isolation. And then we meet an older Adam, who is something like a bitter man, who is a bit broken and feels that life is really beating him up, “Ryan Reynolds told Infobae in a conversation a few days ago, and added that: “And when we put these two characters together, we realize that finally they perfectly describe human existence: beings with qualities, flaws, good moments and some difficult ones. We are not superheroes or villains, we are simply human.”

Precisely, this journey through time helps the older Adam to reflect on his family relationships and the wounds he left open for fear of seeing them face to face and healing them. It is then that we again find two parallels: little Adam cannot get over the absence of his father and blames his mother for not crying or missing him; while the adult Adam understands that his father had to go and also understands that his mother was the one who missed him the most, but she had to be strong for her son. So viewers will find a futuristic film, but also full of family nostalgia.

“This is a love letter to parents, but it is also a love letter to children. It is not easy to be one of the two, because both, in their own way, have complicated lives. It is not white, black or binary, there are many aspects that unite and separate them, “added Ryan.

Time travel is not a reality in our time, and for the actor, it won’t be for many decades. Although yes, he has thought about what to say to a special person if he had the ability to go back a few years:

“I lost my father a few years ago, and I would probably thank him. You know, now I see it… and you don’t understand how hard it is to be a parent until you really are. I think I took it for granted a lot of times when I was a kid, and I actually feel like kids should take it for granted. I hope my kids take the security that my wife and I give them for granted, so I would probably say, ‘Thank you.’
