Even before the 3rd season of The Witcher on its streaming platform, according to a report by Redanian Intelligence shared on the internet, Netflix would already be developing seasons 4 and 5 of the series.
Apparently, the production’s writers’ room is quite busy, being led by showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich, with the participation of writers Mike Ostrowski, Tania Lotia, Haily Hall, Rae Benjamin, Clare Higgins, Javier Grillo-Marxuach, Matthew D. ‘Ambrosio and Troy Dangerfield.
The report also points out that filming for season 4 will begin in late 2023, a few months after the fantasy series’ third year premiere. According to what was previously reported, Netflix would have authorized the consecutive development of seasons 4 and 5, which are also expected to be filmed in continuity.
Officially, the streaming giant has not confirmed the renewal of The Witcher. However, in addition to the recent report, there is other evidence that the order was placed. In April of this year, Stephen Surjik, responsible for directing some episodes, revealed in an interview that he was already aware of some of the writers’ plans for season 4.
“The writers and producers have already mapped out Season 4, but I don’t know if I’m part of that mapping,” he explained at the time.
The Witcher: spin off blood origin should debut in 2022
This year, although a new season of The Witcher does not reach Netflix, fans will be rewarded with the premiere of The Witcher: Blood Origin, the long-awaited spin-off of the series. The production, which is set some 1,200 years before the main events of the narrative, is scheduled to hit streaming on December 25th.
Divided into six episodes, the miniseries will feature the participation of Michelle Yeoh, from the film Everything Everywhere at the Same Time (2022), Lenny Henry, Dylan Moran, Jacob Collins-Levy, Zach Wyatt, Sophia Brown, Francesca Mills, Laurence O’Fuarain, Mirren Mack, Nathaniel Curtis, Amy Murray and Huw Novelli in the main cast.
The plot intends to introduce several new characters, among wizards and elves, as well as other mystical creatures. Also based on the stories of Polish novelist Andrzej Sapkowski, the spin-off took the freedom to create many plots of its own and develop them in a completely new way.
It is worth remembering that the 3rd season of The Witcher finished filming last September. The scripts adapted the fourth book in the Sapkowski saga, entitled contempt time. Thus, it is expected that seasons 4 and 5 will adapt Baptism of Fire and The Swallow’s Tower.
Looking forward to these premieres?
