The Witcher: Inception – Episode reduction explained by creator

The Witcher: Inceptionspin-off of the series The Witcher, was planned to have six episodes, but recent strategies have resulted in the production having only four chapters. According to Declan de Barra, co-creator of the project, this decision was necessary to maintain the narrative flow, without programmed content to extend the story or “roll the audience”.

In an interview with Netflix, de Barra commented that the reduction of the series serves to accompany an ideal story, in order to keep the viewer always on the lookout and attentive to the arcs told. Thus, it is expected that the new format will be leaner without looking like a “two-part movie” and without being tied to a strategy timed by defined rules.

According to the producer, the content was created to “seem logical and correct from a natural narrative point of view.” He emphasized that The origin has the advantage of “not being a network show”, being on a streaming platform where there is no “episode count”.

Thus, shortening the series was something that “happened organically” during filming, with a crisp plot and well-determined central characters.

The Witcher: Inception will be released later this year on Netflix.
