The UK will criminalize the sending of sexual photos without consent

The UK will criminalize sending sexual content without consent. This practice, known as cyberflashingwill constitute a crime that could have a sentence of up to two years in prison.

The practice of cbyerflashing involves the sending of unsolicited sexual images via social media, messaging, or dating apps, as well as through data exchange services such as Bluetooth and Airdrop. In some cases, a preview of the photo may appear on a person’s device, meaning that even if the transfer is rejected, victims are forced to view the image.

An investigation by Professor Jessica Ringrose in 2020 found that 76 percent of girls ages 12 to 18 had been sent unsolicited nude images of boys or men.

On the other hand, a YouGov investigation from 2018 states that almost half of young women between the ages of 18 and 34 unsolicited sexual images have been sent to them.
