The Rig: meet the new Amazon Prime Video mystery series

Compared to productions like AMC’s The Terror and Netflix’s 1899, the series The Rig (Mystery at Sea), from Amazon Prime Video, arrived to present a plot filled with mysteries and details. As expected, the production, since it made its official debut on streaming on January 6 of this year, has intrigued viewers throughout its 6 episodes, which are now available in full.

Created by David Macpherson, The Rig follows a group of workers on a remote Scottish oil rig who must return to the mainland when a mysterious fog envelops them and supernatural forces take over. From this brief description, you already understand why the Prime Video series has aroused so much interest, right?

To mixing drama, mystery, terror, suspense and science fiction, the production is engaging by planting relevant doubts in the minds of viewers: what is the fog that prevents them from returning home? Are they imagining it all or is there something supernatural involved? Either way, the characters in The Rig need to figure out what’s going on as soon as possible so they can save themselves.

The main cast of the Prime Video work has Iain Glen, Emily Hampshire, Martin Compston, Rochenda Sandall, Owen Teale, Calvin Demba, Molly Vevers, Richard Pepple, among others.

  • Amazon Prime Video: the most anticipated premieres of 2023 on streaming

Despite The Rig being heavily talked about at the beginning of the year, Amazon Prime Video has not yet revealed whether it will renew the series for a 2nd season on streaming. As the first part of the production had only 6 episodes, many are already anxious to know if they will continue to unravel the secrets of the narrative. But for now, we will have to wait.

If confirmed, the new batch of episodes could premiere in 2024 (thus, it would have plenty of time to be written, recorded and edited) and present six more chapters, following the initial pattern.
