Last July 26, Shania Twain: Not Just a Girl joined the catalog of documentaries in Netflix. It is a production of this genre that delves into the career of the Canadian singer-songwriter and television presenter who became a music icon country in United States. Directed by Joss Crowley, the documentary emphasizes the most important passages in the star’s professional career.

From Nashville revelation to musical icon, Shania Twain has transcended genres and borders, between triumphs and falls. This documentary shows the woman in her”, reads the official premise published on the service streaming. The title delves into Twain’s beginnings, from her performances in Ontario bars when she was just a teenager, to her breakthrough to her success midway between country and pop.

Shania Twain’s first-person account

The story of Shania Twain reflects the effort and sacrifices she had to make to reach the highest point of her career, even being considered the first woman to record 40 million copies sold of an album for the release of Come on Overhis third studio album. Grammy winner, icon and an admirable person for many, she herself tells her experience in Shania Twain: Not Just a Girl.

He started playing guitar at the age of eight and began singing in bars in his area, but it wasn’t until 1981 that he became interested in the country genre. By then, he was already composing and recording some demos, but a tragedy overshadowed his personal and family life. Her parents died in a car accident in 1987, and she had to take a job as a singer at a Canadian resort to financially support her younger siblings.

In 1993, the artist arrives in Nashville, the heart of country in the US, and signs a contract with the Mercury label, expecting to start her dream career. It was not easy, since women in music had to work harder than men, and the singer of the hit “Man! I Feel Like a Woman” was willing to take this path.

The 88-minute documentary includes an exclusive interview with the Shania Twain from his millionaire residence in Lake Geneva, Switzerland. Likewise, it has the comments of personalities with whom he was linked in his environment such as Lionel Richie, Orville Peck, Kelsea Ballerini, Diploy Y Jon Landau.
