Even after almost 20 years since its debut, The Office is still one of the most famous comedy series and backstory continues to be revealed about its time on the air.
During her appearance on Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey’s Office Ladies podcast, actress Kate Flannery, who played Meredith, revealed that the character almost died in season 4 of the series, as the writers had plans for that to happen.

Michael reportedly killed Meredith in The Office writers’ initial plan
The 4th season of The Office starts in a very comical way, with the accident involving Michael and Meredith and the character getting out of the situation alive.
However, this scene would have been somewhat different if the writers’ initial plan had gone ahead.
As Kate revealed on the podcast, the writers had plans to kill Meredith, and Michael would be responsible for it, accidentally at first.
Despite this initial idea, they reversed the decision: “Greg thought it would be too dark for Michael to have killed one of the employees of Dunder Mifflin”, commented the actress.

What many don’t know is that the writers’ idea was even darker and what, at first, would be a mere accident, would become something planned by the character.
Jenna Fischer revealed on the podcast that one of the scripts for this episode would see Michael actually running over the character by accident, but coming back to kill her for good so as not to leave any witnesses.
Fortunately, both ideas were put aside, The Office maintained its comic essence and Meredith was not brutally murdered.
