Do you know who’s birthday this Wednesday (15)? Himself, “the best boss in the world” as it says on his mug, Michael Scott! Played by Steve Carell, the character is one of the centerpieces of The Officea comedy series that originally aired on the NBC channel and which featured, in all, nine seasons filled with lots of laughs and emotional moments.
- Why did Michael Scott leave The Office? Steve Carell speaks of his departure
Throughout its 201 episodes, Michael Scott won hearts while shocking many fans, all thanks to his “peculiar” way of being. No wonder, the character starred in some of the funniest and most embarrassing scenes of the series, proving us that we are wrong when we think we have seen everything.
However, in addition to outstanding moments, Michael Scott is also known for his phrases, which range from eight to eighty quickly. Mixing teachings, barbarities and oddities, the manager of Dunder Mifflin was able to utter hilarious passages that, until today, are remembered by spectators of The Office with affection (or shame).
The Office: best Michael Scott quotes
On today’s list, the My Series brings the best quotes from Michael Scott in The Office for you to remember and celebrate the character’s birthday with us. Here we go?
“You lose 100% of the time you don’t take a risk – Wayne Gretzky – Michael Scott.”
Who was wiser? Wayne Gretzky or Michael Scott? Only time will tell!Source: NBC
This sentence, which conveys some wisdom, is not exactly Michael’s, but he makes it sound like it is by writing his name right after the name of the official author of the sentence. It’s like a manager to do such a thing!
“I learned a while ago that if I don’t text 911, people don’t return my calls. Then people return my calls because they think something horrible has happened.”
As you well know, Michael is a needy guy. The sentence above shows one of his tactics to get the attention he thinks he deserves: sending a distress message with the US emergency code. Needless to say, the strategy is, to say the least, questionable.
“I… declare… BANKRUPTCY!”
The line, uttered when Michael realizes that he is deep in debt on his credit cards, is one of the most remembered by fans. And she is, in fact, hilarious given the context of the situation.
“Britney’s here, bitch!”
Another classic quote from Michael. From afar, we see the character arriving in his red convertible, wearing sunglasses, while listening to Lady Gaga. As he approaches the camera, he drops the pearl: “It’s Britney, b*tch.”
“The worst thing about the prison was the Dementors.”
In trying to explain that prison is a bad place, Michael creates a character (Prison Mike) who clearly has no idea what a prison is like in reality. Or is the space actually inhabited by some figures from the Harry Potter saga? We think not.
“I feel like my kids have grown up and married each other. It’s every parent’s dream.”
Michael, in his innocence (or stupidity), utters sentences like this time and again, which he doesn’t even realize are riddled with problems. In this case, the sentence is one of the character’s last great lines and was said in the series finale, which is quite emotional.
- The Office: know who is the character who was almost cut from the series
“If I had a gun with two bullets and I was in a room with Hitler, Bin Laden and Toby, I would shoot Toby twice.”
Despite being heavy and even a little uncomfortable, the hilarious phrase always appears in lists of “best quotes from The Office”. And, lo and behold, she wasn’t left out of this one either. And how could it, right? After all, we’re talking about one of the highlights of Michael and Toby’s rivalry.
“You know what they say. Fool me once, strike one, but fool me twice…strike three.”
Michael often pronounces sayings the wrong way, distorting their real meanings. In this example, he erred in teaching by getting confused with the numbers. A Michael Scott juice for you!
“I’m not superstitious, but I’m a little ‘stitious’.”
Speaking of mispronouncing things, here’s another funny slip by the manager of Dunder Mifflin, who doesn’t seem to understand that the above word is not made up. Oh, oh, Michael!
“Sometimes I start a sentence and I don’t even know where it’s going. I just hope I make sense along the way.”
That quote sums up Michael Scott perfectly. As the same character admits, he doesn’t usually think much before speaking and ends up starting sentences and thoughts that even he doesn’t know what they are for. Luckily, that’s exactly what makes it so unique in The Office and makes us crack up with laughter.
“Would I rather be feared or loved? Easy. Both. I want people to be afraid of how much they love me.”
Wisdom? We have! How about this quote from Michael, who, when asked if he prefers to be feared or loved, put the two together in a coherent and surprising way? Rest assured, Michael, we are afraid, yes, of how much we love you.

“That was what she said”.
Michael Scott’s classic joke is seen throughout the narrative of The Office. Whenever someone makes a comment that could be interpreted sexually, the boss will let out a “that’s what she said.” In the last episode of The Office, including, he makes the joke again when he meets Dwight again. If Michael existed in real life, by the way, we have no doubt that he could be saying this right now in the most random way possible.
