Amazon launched a product tsunami yesterday: the fifth generation Echo Dot speakers with Eero mesh support have arrived, a new Echo Auto has arrived, Alexa will move into the on-board system of BMWs within two years, the Halo Rise smart lamp that monitors sleep has been introduced, the Fire TV Cube can be controlled by voice HDMI TV, but if that’s not enough for someone, you can also buy a 65- or 75-inch 4K Omni QLED Fire TV from Amazon. The Ring outdoor security camera and the Amazon Astro robot have also been updated, the former is also available in a wireless version, the latter recognizes dogs. The biggest innovation, however, is the Kindle Scribea 10.2-inch E Ink tablet, the first from Amazon.

Scribe’s display is a matte Paperwhite panel with 16 levels of grayscale, 300 ppi pixel density, supports touch and pen input. The device also comes with a touch pen in the package, the tablet will be available in Europe from November 30 at a price of 369.99 euros. For now, only the 16GB version will be available this year, but Amazon is preparing 32GB and 64GB versions later. There will be an option to buy the Scribe with a premium pen, the latter is equipped with an eraser at the end, and the buttons on the side of the pen allow quick switching between the virtually simulated text highlighter, fountain pen and other writing tools. The software has also been adjusted for pen input, the new Kindle saves notes grouped by book, but there is also a quick note function where you can scribble on a blank page. There is also a separate menu item to help you write a diary, and of course the shopping or to-do list was not left out either. These can be organized in folders, they will be synchronized in the same way as the elements of the Kindle library, and the notes and other entries will be browsed through the Kindle application. For this, the update for the Kindle app will arrive for both iOS and Android in early 2023.

Annotating and signing PDF files via Scribe is also supported, and Word documents will also be annotated; an update for Microsoft Word programs will arrive in 2023, after which it will be possible to send them wirelessly to the Kindle document you want to annotate.

The appearance of the tablet is most similar to the Kindle Oasis without the physical scroll buttons. The display supports backlighting, it solves this with 35 LEDs, and the color temperature of the panel can be adjusted. For some reason, the IPX8 waterproof design is lacking and the Scribe cannot connect to mobile networks either, it only has a Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz) model. Bluetooth for Audible audiobooks is provided, there is automatic rotation, and charging is done via a USB-C connector, the device can absorb 9 watts, which can be fully charged in 2 and a half hours. And with that, according to Amazon, the gadget is functional for a full month.

The housing measures 196 x 230 x 5.8 millimeters, weighs 433 grams, the standard accessory pen weighs 14 grams. Supported formats: AZW3, AZW, TXT, PDF, MOBI, PRC, DOCX, DOC, HTML, EPUB, RTF, JPEG, GIF, PNG, BMP, and AAX for audiobooks. In addition to the Scrible, the box contains the pen, five replacement nibs for the pen, and a USB-C cable. Amazon provides a one-year warranty as standard. Scribe is currently only available in tungsten (grey) color.
