Harry Potter will return to the screen, this time as a new TV adaptation. The series was announced as an original production of streaming Max, a new platform from Warner Bros. Discovery that will combine HBO Max and Discovery+ into a single service.
“Your Hogwarts letter is here. Max has commissioned the first-ever scripted Harry Potter television series, a faithful adaptation of the iconic books. ” The message was accompanied by a teaser, which can be seen below:

The announcement of the series came as no surprise given that the deal between Warner Bros. Discovery and author JK Rowling had already leaked last week. Rowling will serve as executive producer of this new production, described as a “decade-long” series, authentic to the world’s best-selling books.
David Zaslav, CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, and Casey Bloys, President and CEO of Content at HBO & Max, commented on the announcement of the new Original Max production:
My wife and I, we read (the Harry Potter books) to each of our three children… It’s really exciting, for ten years running, people will see Harry Potter on HBO; I mean, it’s really something.
David Zaslav
We are delighted to give audiences the opportunity to discover Hogwarts in a whole new way. Harry Potter is a cultural phenomenon and it’s clear that there is an enduring love and thirst for the Wizarding World. In partnership with Warner Bros. Television and JK Rowling, this new original series from Max will dive deep into each of the iconic books that fans have continued to enjoy over the years.

JK Rowling herself also commented on the announcement:
Max’s commitment to preserving the integrity of my books is important to me, and I look forward to being a part of this new adaptation that will allow for a degree of depth and detail only possible in a long-running television series.
J.K. Rowling
It has not been revealed when the series will hit streaming, nor production details such as directors, showrunners, and cast.
