The Last of Us is HBO’s 2nd biggest opening in 12 years

It’s official: the adaptation of The Last of Us it’s a hit! The first episode of the series, released on Sunday night (15), had 4.7 million simultaneous viewers, including the channel and streaming from HBO Max.

In an official statement, HBO confirmed that is the second biggest debut in twelve yearssecond only to The House of the Dragon, released in August last year. the spin off of game of Thrones drew 9.9 million viewers.

“Our focus was simply to make the best possible adaptation of this beloved story for the widest possible audience. We are very happy to see how many fans, old and new, received The Last of Us in their homes and their hearts,” said Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, the show’s writers.

“We are excited to see fans experience this iconic story in a new way, and we extend our gratitude for helping to make it a success. We can’t wait for everyone to enjoy the rest of the season in the coming weeks,” said Casey Bloys, President and CEO of HBO & HBO Max Content.

The second episode of the series premieres next Sunday (22) on HBO and HBO Max.
