Broken hearts, abandoned projects… in the end everything is one and the same, as the story of James Bond and Quentin Tarantino. Each one in his own style, agent 007 and the director of pulp fiction They are two aúpa hummingbirds, which explains why they have never been able to meet. And not because the second lacked the desire.
In an interview with the German publication Zeit (via World of Reel), Tarantino has taken the opportunity to throw flowers (“I think I’ll outlast Hollywood itself” he says) and he has looked back to remember one of the films he would like to have directed: an adaptation of Royal Casino, the first novel of Ian Fleming starring Bond, with Pierce Brosnan and Uma Thurman as protagonists.
“I had read the book and I thought it was very good. It basically tells the origin story of James Bond. If I could have done it, I would would have been my project for after ‘Pulp Fiction’, Explain. In addition, Tarantino would not have had to adjust to the continuity of the franchise: “At that time, the producers of the series Bond they did not own the rights to the book and had been fighting over them in court for decades. So it would have been conceivable that I could have filmed it.”
Tarantino was left with the desire to carry out this film, but he continued in his thirteen for years. In 2004, the director came across Pierce Brosnan at the Four Seasons Hotel in Hollywood, and the two (completely drunk on martinis) talked about a film that would have featured the Irishman again as 007, and Thurman as Vesper Lind.
As we know, Royal Casino had already been adapted to the cinema (in that way) in 1967, with David NivenWoody Allen and Orson Welles in the cast. In 2006, the plot of the novel served to relaunch the saga with Daniel Craig of protagonist and eva green playing Vesper.
