The iPhone 13’s toughest competitor isn’t who you think it is

If you want a smartphone with CPU and GPU power approaching that of an iPhone 13 , the Galaxy S22 or other Android smartphone using the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip may not be the way to go. should you turn.

Indeed, it would seem that the processor whose performance is closest to that of the A15 Bionic of the iPhone 13 is a chip which should arrive, this year, on relatively affordable devices: the Dimensity 9000 from Mediatek.

Mediatek successfully enters the premium segment

Mediatek, a Taiwanese company, has been supplying processors for Android smartphones for years. But until now, it had focused on the entry-level segment and on the intermediate market.

However, this will change this year since with the Dimensity 9000 chip, engraved in 4 nm, Mediatek is attacking the premium segment. When it comes to specs, this chip has nothing to envy to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, Samsung’s latest Exynos chip, or the Google Tensor of the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. The Dimensity 9000 would be even more efficient than these products, and close to the performance of the A15 Bionic chip of the iPhone 13 (and the iPhone SE 2022).

Back in November, a Mediatek official said the Dimensity 9000 should match Apple’s A15 Bionic on multi-core benchmarks and achieve an AnTuTu score of over a million.

And apparently, this promise will be kept. In a recent tweet, Ice Universe, one of the most reliable sources of leaks, published a benchmark (Geekbench 5) showing the scores that were allegedly obtained by a Xiaomi smartphone using the Dimensity 9000 chip.

If this information is correct, this future Xiaomi smartphone may inflict a lesson on the Galaxy S22, Google’s Pixel 6 and other devices using Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 gen 1.

According to Ice Universe, the smartphone with Dimensity 9000 chip has a score of 1,309 points in single-core and a score of 4,546 points in multi-core. With such scores, the device surpasses the Pixel 6 Pro (single-core 1,035 points and multi-core 2,870 points), as well as the Galaxy S22 Ultra with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip (single-core 1,224 points). points and multi-core of 3,445 points).

The Dimensity 9000 doesn’t top Apple’s A15 Bionic chip, however, which scores 1,733 on single-core tests and 4,751 points on multi-core tests. However, we are not far.

In another tweet, Ice Universe also recalls that this Mediatek chip will land on relatively adorable devices compared to Google or Samsung flagships. “It will be a chip for a $500 phone, see if you can get that kind of performance in your $1000+ Galaxy phones? »he wrote.

But of course, for the moment, this information is still to be considered with caution. Moreover, it is possible that the benchmark obtained by Ice Universe comes from a prototype whose performances do not necessarily reflect those that we will have on final products.

Which smartphones will use the Dimensity 9000?

While many flagships using the Snapdragon 8 gen 1 are already available on the market, to date, you cannot yet buy a device equipped with the Dimensity 9000 chip. Nevertheless, we should see products using this chip arriving very soon. making up.

This week, Xiaomi will present its new Redmi K50 series. And one of the models in this series will use the Dimensity 9000 chip.

Rumors also suggest that OnePlus would equip the OnePlus 10R and the OnePlus Nord 3 with this chip.
