The Edge 40 Pro reaches the top with a price advantage

There are more and more attractive phones in Motorola’s range in Hungary – for example, the Edge 30 Ultra debuted with a 200-megapixel main camera, and the Edge 30 Fusion earned a prominent place in year-end mobile recommendations. Although these are not so old pieces, in China 2023 already started five months ago, because in December, the new flagship model with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 was launched under the name Moto X40, and it has now received a new name and Google Play services Motorola Edge 40 Pro title and European appearance.

There are a lot of interesting things about the pebble-shaped, polished flagship phone, but it’s worth getting the most exciting in advance: in the age of half a million HUF flagships, the recommended domestic price of HUF 340,000 is good news, because it comes with 12 GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256 GB of UFS 4.0 storage, and there’s nothing more powerful for that price starting configuration. We have already touched a dark gray Edge 40 Pro and encountered a rather slippery, matte Gorilla Glass Victus back.

But at least there, in the black pack, the better-fitting, hard case is the 125-watt TurboCharge supercharger, along with the Type-C cable at both ends, the SIM pin and the descriptions. The 4,600 mAh battery can also be charged wirelessly at 15 watts, and it can power other things at 5 watts. At 161.16 x 74 x 8.59 millimeters, the Pro is undoubtedly large, but with its curved display and back, it feels more graceful than its size, and the weight of 199 grams is not terrible at all. The phone, which offers IP68 protection and omits a jack output and microSD expansion, offers a nanoSIM slot plus a programmable eSIM, as well as a stereo speaker and a WiFi 7 Ready modem in addition to supporting all domestic 5G bands.

The protagonist is undoubtedly the nearly borderless, 6.67″ pOLED panel dotted with 60 megapixel selfie holes. It has 1080 x 2400 pin-sharp pixels, 10-bit color depth, HDR10+ and Dolby Vision support, exceptionally high brightness and night dimming. for always comfortable use. The two 50 megapixel main cameras on the back promise good photo-video performance in normal (23 mm, 1/1.5″, f/1.8, OIS, all-pixel autofocus) and ultra-wide roles (114 degree viewing angle, f/2.2, autofocus, super macros). The video recording ceiling is 8K at 30 fps, and 4K 60 is also an option on the front.

The zoom camera with 12 megapixels and 2x optical zoom is less convincing on paper (50 mm, f/1.6, portrait mode), but we will soon demonstrate what it can do in practice with a test and examples. We cannot answer the other question any time soon, and this is the upgrade level from a multi-year perspective, and that is why the Edge 30 series is not showered with update packages. In the case of the Edge 40 Pro, the manufacturer promises three years of main version and four years of security bug fixes.
