The Crown: Season 5 premieres on Netflix; know more

The long-awaited fifth season of The Crown🇧🇷 The new episodes will take place after another time jump and should follow one of the most turbulent periods of the British Crown.

The season should follow the controversial news involving the divorce of Elizabeth II’s three children, the turbulent period of the marriage between Lady Di and the death of Diana, in the 1990s.

The cast of the fifth season of The Crown will feature Imelda Staunton as Elizabeth II, Jonathan Pryce as Prince Philip, Lesley Manville as Princess Margaret, Dominic West as Prince Charles, Elizabeth Debicki as Princess Diana, Timothee Sambor as Prince William and Teddy Hawley as Prince Harry.

Season with controversies

This is the first season to be released after the Queen’s death in September of this year, and the premiere has already been talked about. John Major, former Prime Minister of England – already introduced in the series – contested the events of the production, especially a scene in which he appears planning a situation for the Queen to abdicate.

  • The Crown: spin-off series begins to be discussed by Netflix

“John did not cooperate in any way with The Crown🇧🇷 Nor was he ever approached by them to verify any script material from this or any other series,” said an official note from his office. “None of the scenes you portray are accurate in any way. They are fiction, pure and simple.”

Netflix, on the other hand, defended the production, saying that “The Crown has always been presented as a drama based on historical events. Season 5 imagines what could have gone on behind closed doors during a significant decade for the royal family – one that has already been scrutinized and well documented by journalists, biographers and historians.”

The five seasons of The Crown are available on Netflix.
