The Crown: Netflix Confirms It Won’t Depict Diana’s Accident

The 6th season of The Crown will be the last of the Netflix series and, according to the producers, will focus on the death of Princess Diana. However, the writers chose not to portray the car accident that killed the princess in real life, addressing only the events that happened before the accident and the repercussions of it.

Inspired by real life, the series also has a poetic license to portray the events. Therefore, the creative team decided to respect the family and not reproduce the scene.

The decision was reported by Deadline, which took advantage of the story to explain that the production was afraid of the collision scene.

“We were afraid to get to this point. We have a two-week countdown, and as we continue, it’s fair to recognize that there is some anxiety; a palpable feeling of being a little nervous. I mean, there’s a bombastic sensibility around this moment,” a source from the production told the report.

The 5th season of the series that depicts the life of Queen Elizabeth II premieres on November 9 on the streaming platform. Meanwhile, the 6th and final season is currently in production and will cover events that took place between 1997 and 2001, as well as making a time jump to portray Prince William’s marriage to Kate Middleton in 2011.

The death of Queen Elizabeth II (1926-2022) had no impact on the production and, like Princess Diana’s accident, should not be addressed by the writers. Soon, new information about the plot of the new episodes should be revealed.
