The magistrate, Alexandre de Moraesof the Supreme Court of Brazil, ordered the blocking of Telegram after identifying that said company refused to help “collaborate with Justice.”
The order was issued as caution and could be finalized in the coming days. The cases in which Telegram allegedly did not participate are under the charge of Moraes.
According to the judicial entity, the messaging platform supposedly failed to comply with numerous subpoenas in investigation processes on the massive dissemination of false news.
In recent months, Telegram has become the main messaging medium used by the president of BrazilJair Bolsonaro, and the far-right groups that support him, who began to migrate to that service after much of their content was blocked on other platforms for being liars or offensive.
