The fourth season of stranger things came back with everything. With more darkness, full of symbolism and with that atmosphere of terror and nostalgia that she raised in her first installment, she managed to conquer the attention of all fans around the world.
Eleven and her friends go through new personal conflicts ranging from bullying to knowing how to fit in with new groups of friends. Already in full adolescence, young people face new challenges but always with the presence of that evil that lives in the Upside Down (The other side). Like two sides of a coin, this crack that divides the two worlds, the real and the supernatural, both universes begin to merge imperceptibly. What is real and what is not?
Thus, in this mix of multiverse-style worlds, one of the most complex and well-profiled characters of this season emerges. This is Henry (Jamie Campbell Bower), a kind of assistant who works in the laboratory of Dr. Martin Brenner (Matthew Modine) and who appears before Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) as a person you can trust (ATTENTION SPOILERS FROM HERE).
His character takes an unexpected turn in the seventh episode when the viewer discovers that he was actually patient 001 in the lab. Thus, while Nancy (Natalia Dyer) is under the effects of the hallucinations caused by the Vecna creature in the Upside Down, it is revealed that this boy is nothing more than the son of Victor Creel (Robert Englund). After Eleven confronts him with his powers, he sends Henry through a portal to the Upside Down where he becomes the monster Vecna.
“I had no idea what this character was; I was not sent any program material”, commented Bowers In an interview given to the publication Variety. It is that the character of the actor is one of the most finished in the series that generates a lot of concern from his first appearance. His tone, his look and the words that come out of his mouth are taken by Eleven as an enigma that he doesn’t finish deciphering, but whom he decides to trust.
“I went crazy for two days. In my apartment, I put a picture of Will Byers in the middle, and then all the other characters around him, and then I did a Claire Danes-style mind map of Homeland”, assured Bowers during the interview and added: “Then I got a phone call saying that Matt and Ross (Duffer) wanted to meet me.”
Brothers Duffer They explained to him for an hour and a half the true identity of his character, who was not a simple assistant to Dr. Brenner. Three days later they confirmed that the role was his. “What came next was chaos”declared the actor. The role of him wanders through different roles which was quite a challenge for Jamie: “Particularly when I’m Henry or One, there’s a lot of manipulation in there,” he reflected.
The transformation into Vecna took 7 and a half hours.. Their day began at 3 in the morning and they recorded for 10 or 12 hours. It took her another hour to remove her makeup. “For Vecna, there is this deep resentment. It’s their fuel, so I really had to take advantage of that, and I don’t consider myself someone who holds onto resentment. So unearthing that inside of me was pretty tough,” Bower recalled.
