Stay informed: Twitter tests personalized timelines based on hot topics
Although Twitter is experiencing instability today, the social network continues to release news to attract more users and today Twitter is introducing custom timelines based on hot topics. The first of them is based on the reality show “The Bachelorette”, which is named as “A Despedida” in Portuguese.
Below is a preview of how the feature works, showing a separate tab for a custom reality-based timeline. The feature will only be available for 10 weeks to select users in the US and Canada as part of a trial, Twitter spokesperson Shaokyi Amdo told The Verge.
Today we launched a new custom Timeline experiment – just one of the many things we’re working on over at @TwitterDev 🚀 There is a lot of potential for the developer community to build features like this in the future, and we are just getting started. Twitter also points out that personalized timeline content is shown according to topic relevance, hot topics, searches and manual curation.
While this is still an early exploration of the potential that third-party custom Timelines can bring to people using Twitter, we’re excited to learn from this test as we look to give people more ways to participate in the public conversation and an greater choice about the content they see on Twitter.
While the feature looks similar to lists, a Twitter spokesperson claims that the content is displayed differently, as the lists only display content in ascending or descending chronological order without adding related topics between them, while the custom timeline brings more. information based on enhanced curation.
