Spotify on Apple Watch finally adds offline music downloads

Spotify announced on Friday that the company has added the ability to download playlists, albums, and podcasts to Apple Watch for offline playback. Users will be able to stream 96kbps audio, add and delete Spotify content on their phones, and synchronize with the Apple Watch. This feature was announced on Google I/O 2021 earlier this week.
The company said in a press release: “The ability to download music and podcasts is an addition to the existing feature, which can stream favorites from the watch. Now, you don’t even have to carry your phone.”
Spotify added the ability to play music with Apple Watch in November. Prior to this, the Apple Watch only acted as a remote control to play Spotify music on the iPhone or other Spotify Connect compatible devices. Spotify on Apple Watch was released in 2018.
The offline function will be available on Apple Watch Series 3 or higher version of WatchOS 6.0 or higher (WatchOS 7.1 or higher is recommended) from Friday. You also need to subscribe to Spotify Premium. A premium membership for a family account range from $15.99 per month and for a single account it is $9.99 per month. There is also an option for a Spotify student account for $4.99 per month.

Another music streaming service Deezer defeated Spotify earlier this week by adding the ability to download music from its Apple Watch app.
Also this week, Spotify said it will launch a new feature to allow Google’s Wear device to download music and listen to it offline without the need for an additional phone. The product leader of the company’s wearable products said in a Google developer keynote on Tuesday that the product has not yet been released but is under development.
