The revelation of Velma’s sexual orientation, which has been speculated for years, arrived in the new film Trick or Treat Scooby Doo. In the plot, the character meets the villain Coco Diablo and immediately assumes a very shy expression. She analyzes all the traits of the character, which goes according to her personality, and falls in love right away.

She then confesses to Daphne that she has “a big crush” on Coco. Check out the scene below:

While this is, in fact, official confirmation that Velma is not straight, it’s not the first time her orientation has been addressed. In an Instagram post, producer Tony Cervone previously posted a photo of Velma with a rainbow flag.

Also, in the early 2000s, James Gunn, screenwriter for the live-action films, expressed a desire to already show Velma as an openly lesbian character. However, the studio responsible for production did not accept the idea and confirmation only arrived in 2022 with the new animation.

The film premiered on October 4 with a plot developed especially for Halloween.
