Samsung will soon present the just announced at CES Flex Hybrid OLED panel that combines bendable technology with a sliding solution. The prototype opens like a book, just like the Fold series, but the area of the panel can be further increased with a sliding mechanism on the right side. The device can be opened to 10.5 inches, so you get a 4:3 aspect ratio, and by sliding it apart, you can increase the surface to 12.4 inches with a 16:10 aspect ratio.
First, LG presented a horizontally sliding solution, and recently Motorola demoed a similar concept in a vertical direction. The parallel integration of the two approaches, i.e. the bendable and the sliding panel, can be realized by Samsung first.
At CES, by the way, the The Flex Slidable Solo and Flex Slidable Duet projects (shown on the cover photo) will also be available to view, the first solution allows the 14-inch OLED panel to be extended to 17.3 inches from one side, and the latter works from two sides, like an expander.
