Samsung denies rumors about the end of Exynos chip development

Samsung has denied the rumors about the possible end of development of Exynos family chips for smartphones and other mobile devices. The note was shared this week after several rumors about an alleged market abandonment.

According to the South Korean giant, its processor division is undergoing a restructuring. Pee Jae-gul, Vice President of Samsung System LSI, said:

We are currently restructuring our system-on-a-chip (SoC) business model and developing a strategy to improve competitiveness in the medium and long term.

The executive also commented that Samsung intends to expand the use of proprietary mobile chips over the next few years. The idea is to use these solutions in smart watches, modems, laptops and products with access via WiFi connection.

For this, the brand must establish partnerships with other players in the technology sector.

Currently, the market share of Exynos chips is only 6.6% in the global SoC market. The first place belongs to Qualcomm with 37.7%, followed by MediaTek (26.3%) and Apple (26%). The data is from Strategy Analytics.

For now, Samsung does not provide more details about upcoming releases within the Exynos family, but rumors about the end of processor development began when Samsung confirmed that it should use Qualcomm solutions in the Galaxy S23 line.

In addition, at next week’s Unpacked event, the Korean will also present the new Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4 with Snapdragon solutions to the world.
