Samsung confirms the arrival of its next folding smartphones

A few weeks ago, Samsung had anticipated excellent results for the first quarter, thanks to the manufacture of chips, but also to the sales of Galaxy smartphones. And today, it is confirmed . Indeed, the Korean giant has just presented these results.

As we mentioned in a previous article, current operating income increased by 51% year-on-year. And as far as smartphones are concerned, these generated around 24 billion euros in revenue, and a net profit of 2.86 billion euros.

Folding smartphones should give Samsung good financial health in the second half of the year

This good performance is attributed to Samsung’s flagships, the Galaxy S22, but also to the mid-range devices of the Galaxy A series. Moreover, now, Samsung is focusing on the launch of its next folding smartphones.

“We are currently all on deck to prepare the new foldable model, which is scheduled for launch in the second half of the year”said Kim Sung-Koo, vice president of Samsung’s mobile business, according to Korean news agency Yonhap.

Samsung hasn’t made an official teaser yet, but logic dictates that the manufacturer will launch the successors to the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 in the second half. Since the manufacturer has said goodbye to its Galaxy Note devices, folding smartphones can now take advantage of the old launch window of these.

Samsung has always bet on folding smartphones. And if today, these devices are even more important for the group, it is because last year, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and the Galaxy Z Flip 3 allowed it to conquer the general public.

According to data from Samsung, shipments of folding smartphones in 2021 increased by 4 times. And besides, the Korean giant is very optimistic for the coming years. Indeed, according to it, the market should increase tenfold by 2023.

Folding smartphones will be among Samsung’s flagships

Thus, the demand for folding smartphones is finally there, and Samsung intends to take advantage of it. In addition, the manufacturer must also redouble its efforts in order to face its competitors, which are more and more numerous in the segment of folding smartphones.

To Chinese brands like Oppo, Xiaomi, or even Huawei could soon be added Google. Indeed, according to unofficial sources, the American company could launch a foldable screen device called Pixel Notepad before the end of the year.

Within Samsung’s mobile division, folding smartphones will become increasingly important. According to the explanations of its vice-president, these should have the same weight as the flagships of the Galaxy S series within the manufacturer’s offer.
