As you can see, Xiaomi is finally offering its Pro model with a 5G SoC. This feature was still missing in the very good predecessor, the Redmi Note 10 Pro. Since I find this model particularly exciting, let’s take a closer look at it.

Redmi Note 11 Pro and Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G

The good news: apart from the 5G SoC, the two Pro models do not differ. You get a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with FHD+ resolution and a high sampling rate of 360 Hertz. The resolution is 2,400 x 1,080 pixels. With this large display, the smartphone measures almost 164 x 76 x 8 millimeters and weighs 202 grams. The back, which is available in the three colors “Graphite Gray”, “Polar White” and “Star Blue”, is still made of plastic. Both models are also protected against water and dust according to IP53 and offer stereo speakers and a 3.5-millimeter headphone jack.

With the 5G model, Xiaomi relies on a Snapdragon 695, which is manufactured using the 6-nanometer process. In addition to the Adreno 619 GPU, the SoC works with 6 or 8 gigabytes of LPDDR4X RAM and is paired with 64 or 128 GB of UFS 2.2 storage. A MediaTek Helio G96, which works with a Mali-G75 GPU, is used in the LTE model with the same storage configurations. The best way to see how the performance differs is in the later test report! Bluetooth 5.1 and NFC are present in both models.

The camera was particularly exciting last year, since Xiaomi, like Realme, dared to jump to 108 megapixels with the Realme 8 Pro. The manufacturer continues there and provides two additional cameras alongside the main camera with a Samsung HM2 sensor and f/1.9 light intensity. Since this is an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera and a 2-megapixel macro camera, there are no big surprises. Unfortunately, there is no telephoto camera, but the selfie camera has a resolution of 16 megapixels.

Xiaomi has considered a clear improvement for the battery. Unlike in China, this one measures 5,000 milliampere hours again, but you can quickly recharge it with 67 watts. A corresponding charger is included with the mobile phone, but you have to do without wireless charging again.

The Note 11 Pro starts at $299 globally, and the 5G variant costs exactly $30 more at $329. The prices for Germany are not yet available, but Xiaomi announced that the Pro versions will be available in February. ´

Redmi Note 11

If you opt for the cheaper basic model, the display shrinks to 6.43 inches. Unfortunately, Xiaomi still relies on an LC display that repeats images at 90 Hertz instead of 120 Hertz. However, the resolution is the same at 2,400 x 1,080 pixels. Due to the smaller display, the Note 11 also measures just under 160 x 74 x 8 millimeters and is also a little lighter at 179 grams. The IP53 certification is also available here.

The Redmi Note 11 is not 5G-capable – Xiaomi will certainly launch 20 more models in the course of the year. Just kidding, a Snapdragon 680 is used in the Redmi Note 11, which works together with 4 or 6 gigabytes of LPDDR4X RAM and 64 or 128 gigabytes of internal UFS 2.2 storage. The new smartphone eats up microSD cards with up to one terabyte of storage space.

The Note 11 is the only model in the series that does not offer 108 megapixels. Instead, a main camera with 50 megapixels and a fast f/1.8 lens is used. Xiaomi pairs the shooter with 8 megapixels in the ultra wide-angle and a duo of macro and depth cameras, which will serve more as an ornament with 2 megapixels. You take selfies with 13 megapixels.

While the Redmi Note 11 can hold a candle to the Pro models with 5,000 mAh, it falls behind when it comes to quick charging. The smartphone charges with a maximum of 33 watts. As with the Pro model, Xiaomi uses two speakers.

For the Redmi Note 11 you pay from 179 US dollars. The manufacturer has not yet been able to communicate euro prices, but the devices will start in January. So we don’t have to wait too long.

Redmi Note 11S

Xiaomi also offers an 11S in the same case as the Redmi Note 11. This offers the same LC display with 6.43 inches and is the same size and weight. However, there are differences in the processor used, because a MediaTek Helio G96 is used instead of the Snapdragon CPU. This clocks a little lower, but should offer a bit more power. However, the MediaTek chipset in this form is not 5G-capable either.

The 11S is also superior when it comes to the cameras used. Because instead of 50 megapixels, the smartphone works with 108 MP, which are downscaled to 12 megapixels using the nona-binning method. Away from the main camera, it looks sparse here too. 8 megapixels in the ultra wide angle and two additional cameras, each with 2 megapixels. Apart from that, nothing changes in the S model.

Thus, it recharges a 5,000 mAh battery with 33 watts and offers the stereo speakers mentioned by Xiaomi. A 3.5 millimeter jack is also included.

The S version of the Redmi Note 11 starts at $249. There is no price for Germany here either, but the model should be available in January.

MIUI 13 and Air-Purifier: This is still new at Xiaomi

All presented smartphones are factory equipped with MIUI 13! That sounds exciting at first, but Xiaomi’s latest version of its own Android overlay is still based on Android 11. A clear shortcoming compared to the operating systems of the competition. On the one hand, Google introduced exciting new features in Android 12, on the other hand, the smartphones presented offer a shorter update guarantee.

In MIUI 13, Xiaomi introduces some new features including Liquid Storage, Atomized Memory and Focused Algorithms. You can find out exactly what that means in our separate presentation of MIUI 13. Before I ask you for your feedback on the new devices, one more thing: Xiaomi is also introducing the fourth version of the Smart Air Purifier with the new devices. The device is already available in stores and costs you 349 euros.
