Poco M5 and M5s are announced with MediaTek chips and big battery

After multiple leaks, Xiaomi announced at an event held this morning (5) the Poco M5 and Poco M5s. The novelties integrate the brand’s most basic intermediate family, with emphasis on the traditional M5, which brings a new chipset to the line accompanying the 90 Hz screen, while the M5s arrives just as another renamed version of a Redmi device.

Poco M5 brings Helio G99 and big battery

The Poco M5 arrives equipped with MediaTek Helio G99 chipset, manufactured in 6 nm by TSMC and equipped with 8 cores, with two high-performance Cortex-A76 running at up to 2.2 GHz and six high-efficiency Cortex-A55 operating at up to 2 .0 GHz. The platform comes with 4 GB or 6 GB of RAM, and 64 GB or 128 GB of storage with the possibility of expansion via Micro SD cards.

At 6.6 inches, the IPS LCD screen is one of the device’s strong points, bringing a Full HD+ resolution of 2408 x 1080 pixels, a 90 Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 500 nits, in addition to a notch in ” V” to house the 5 MP selfie lens. The sound system is simple, with a mono speaker, as well as the rear cameras, which have a 50 MP main sensor and a pair of 2 MP lenses for macro photos and depth calculation.

Another of the Poco M5’s highlights is the battery, with a generous 5,000 mAh cell and modest 18 W charging. yellow, equipped with a leather-like finish, along with a huge black plastic strip where the Poco logo and cameras are embedded.

Completing the set, the novelty offers 4G connectivity, Wi-Fi 5 Dual Band, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC, infrared emitter for controlling TVs and other devices, fingerprint reader integrated into the power button on the side, P2 connector for headphones and Android 12, running under MIUI 13.

Poco M5s is renamed version of Redmi model

The second release of the day is less exciting and, in fact, not exactly a novelty — the Poco M5s arrives as a rebranded version of the Redmi Note 11 SE which, in turn, was already a rebrand of the Redmi Note 10S. The design confirms this strategy as it is the same as the other two Redmi models, with the exception of the addition of the Poco logo next to the cameras.

Therefore, the device comes equipped with MediaTek Helio G95 chipset, 4 GB or 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB or 128 GB of storage, with the possibility of expansion via Micro SD cards. Interestingly, the rest of the specs mix superior and inferior aspects compared to the traditional POCO M5, starting with the display.

With 6.43 inches, the screen has a Full HD+ AMOLED panel, with a resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels, a typical brightness of 450 nits and a peak of 1,100 nits, although the refresh rate is only 60 Hz. Housed in a central hole, the selfie camera has 13 MP, and comes with a robust rear set of four lenses, with a 64 MP main sensor, an 8 MP ultrawide and a dual 2 MP for macro and depth calculation.

Like the traditional M5, the Poco M5s ships a generous 5,000 mAh tank, but there is a higher power recharge here, reaching 33 W. In addition, the renamed device ships 4G connectivity, Wi-Fi 5 Dual Band, Bluetooth 5.0 , NFC, infrared emitter, fingerprint reader on the side, P2 connector, stereo sound and Android 12, under MIUI 13.
