After successfully launching the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro in the last quarter of 2021, Google is now preparing for the launch of its next smartphone. According to several sources, this is the Pixel 6A, which will be an affordable version with a slimmed-down spec sheet of the Pixel 6.
Google has not yet mentioned this smartphone. But apparently, its launch is already being prepared among operators. This is indicated by an article published this week by our colleagues from Android Police.
Pixel 6A: the affordable version of the Pixel 6 for the mid-range segment
Citing a well-informed source, the media indicates that the Pixel 6A would have recently been integrated into the database of an American telephone operator, under the code name “bluejay”, a name which had already circulated after this one had leaked Android code.

This suggests that the launch could be soon. In addition, Android Police also reveals that the Pixel 6A would be available in three colors: black, white and green. And the device would be offered with a single storage option at 128 GB.
This Google Pixel smartphone is highly anticipated, as unlike the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, the Pixel 6A will target the middle market. Nevertheless, rumors suggest that the device should be equipped with the same Google Tensor chip as the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. This chip would guarantee very high performance, as well as advanced functions in terms of artificial intelligence.
The Pixel Watch would also arrive
In the same article, Android Police also indicates that the future Pixel Watch , codenamed “rohan”, has recently been integrated into an operator’s inventory system. This would be offered in gray, black, and gold. And Google would include 32 GB of storage in this future Apple Watch competitor.
It’s entirely possible that the Pixel 6A and the Pixel Watch will launch at the same time. But unfortunately, Android Police did not obtain information regarding the prices and launch dates of these two products.
Anything is possible, and Google in recent years has been unpredictable. But logic would dictate that the firm would launch its new smartphone and its first Pixel connected watch in May, during the Google I/O conference.
In any case, like the Pixel 6A, the Pixel Watch will be a very important product for Google’s ecosystem. Indeed, in 2021, the firm announced a major overhaul of its Wear OS operating system with Samsung.
