Ke Huy Quan and the ‘American Dream’
“My journey started on a boat. I spent a year in a refugee camp – and somehow I ended up here, on Hollywood’s biggest stage. They say stories like this only happen in the movies. I can’t believe this is happening to me,” said Ke Huy Quan, upon winning the Best Supporting Actor award for his role in Everything Everywhere at the Same Time. The moment was, by far, one of the most emotional of the night.

John Travolta Tribute
During the block In Memory, to remember the stars who died in the last year, John Travolta paid tribute to Olivia Newton John, his co-star in In the Times of Brilhantina. The actor tearfully said, “We remain irredeemably devoted to you,” in reference to the actress’ song.

animals on stage
The awards also featured the presence of animals on stage. The donkey that is part of Os Banshes de Inisherin accompanied Jimmy Kimmel in one of the moments of the award, gaining attention on social networks.
In addition, a person dressed as a bear also passed through the awards. Alluding to the film O Urso do Pó Branco, the “animal” appeared during the reading of one of the categories and also in a moment with the audience.

unpublished awards
Michelle Yeoh was the first Asian woman to win the Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in Everything and Everywhere at Once. In addition, Guillermo del Toro, awarded for Pinocchio, became the first to win, in different editions, the awards for Best Director, Best Film and Best Animation.
Another highlight was Brendan Fraser’s victory in the Best Actor category. Full of newcomers, the category ended up rewarding the star of the 2000s for his performance in the film A Baleia.
The award snubbers
While All in Everywhere at Once and All New on the Front made it through the squeegee, some of the favorites ended up going home without figurines. The Fabelmans, The Banshes of Inisherin and Elvis left the awards empty-handed.
Oscars 2023 memes
A year after Will Smith’s fateful slap on Chris Rock, the subject was still heavily commented on by Jimmy Kimmel and, of course, on social media. Proof of this is that the actor’s name was among the most quoted on Twitter last night.
In addition, other moments caught the attention of the public, such as the embarrassing interview of Hugh Grant on the red carpet and the dress of singer Tems, nominated for the song Lift Me Up, blocking the audience’s view. Check out the Oscars 2023 memes:
