As a foretaste of the Inno Day 2021 event, which is due to take place next week, Oppo published a video on December 8th via a smartphone with an extendable photo module. A proprietary innovation that is a hot topic in the tech industry and could revive the pop-up camera trend.
- It could be both the Oppo Find X4 (Pro) and a concept smartphone.
- The pop-up mechanism was developed by Oppo itself and can retract automatically in the event of a fall.
- The model or concept is likely to be presented during Oppo Inno Day on December 14th and 15th, 2021.
Do you still remember the trend of pop-up selfie cameras from 2018-2019, such as the Xiaomi Mi 9T or the famous shark fin of the first Oppo Reno? Apparently, Oppo wants to revive the pop-up camera trend, but this time with a retractable lens on the back of the smartphone, as you can see in the video.
Most pop-ups are annoying …
But not our self-developed retractable camera! 😉

It is impossible to know whether Oppo the photo module is already planning to use the new camera in its next flagship, the Oppo Find X4 (Pro). Alternatively, it could also be a concept smartphone that the manufacturer will unveil during its Oppo Inno Day 2021, a two-day event on December 14th and 15th.
It is also difficult to say what such a camera could be used for. It would be realistic, however, that the retractable lens could be used for better zoom qualities.
Still unclear: What does the Oppo retractable camera do?
As other media reports, the retractable lens shown by Oppo has several notices on it, suggesting that it is a sensor with a physical size of 1 / 1.56 inches, an f / 2.4 aperture and a focal length of 50 mm. This type of sensor is too big to be a dedicated telephoto lens. Gsmarena suspects that the larger pixels on this sensor could be used to capture more detail or create a stronger bokeh effect.
In any case, we will find out more about it during the Inno Day next week. The manufacturer has also announced that they will introduce new smart glasses for Augmented Reality (AR) and a new NPU (Neural Processing Unit). Visit us on December 14th and 15th to get a glimpse of the latest innovations from Oppo.
