OnePlus confirmed during MWC 2023 earlier this year that it will be one more to enter the folding cell phone market, but so far little is known about the so-called OnePlus Fold. Apparently, not even the name of the device will be in accordance with what was being commented by sources in the industry, it is possible that the brand will bet on a very different approach from its rivals when naming its first flexible screen model.
According to tipster Max Jambor (@MaxJmb on Twitter), OnePlus is going to use a different strategy to name its foldable smartphone. According to him, instead of the word “Fold” used in popular models like Galaxy Z Fold 4, Pixel Fold and Mix Fold 2, the device should be called OnePlus Open.
In another post, Max points out that several options were considered, including OnePlus Wing, OnePlus Peak, OnePlus Prime and OnePlus Edge. But, apparently, the final name of the model should really be Open, referring to the fact that it opens up to reveal a new user experience with the internal screen.
Until then known as OnePlus Fold — or even OnePlus V Fold —, the now speculated OnePlus Open has already had its design previously commented on by a series of renderings, displaying a different visual solution: an LED flash in the upper left corner of the back cover and a large, more centralized circle to house your rear cameras.
What to expect from OnePlus Open?
Some rumors have already anticipated possible technical characteristics of OnePlus Open. It should be presented with the alleged Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 2, and have an AMOLED LTPO screen with a variable refresh rate of up to 120 Hz and 2K resolution.
Regarding the photographic set, it should have a 50 MP main camera with a Sony IMX890 sensor, along with an ultrawide and a periscope for long-range optical zoom, while it will have a 32 MP front camera in a hole in the external screen. Finally, it should have a 4,800 mAh battery with 100 W fast charging support.
Unfortunately, there is still no date for the release of OnePlus Open. But it is expected to arrive soon, rivaling the Pixel Fold and the as-yet-unannounced Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Xiaomi Mix Fold 3.
